As the host, it’s a good idea to have a plan to keep the festivities a balanced serving of viewpoints. The table represents so many things when it comes to the holidays. Traditions, cultures, and decorations are all meaningful and help to set the tone for the meal. Many of these things can bring up memories that can be bittersweet. So, take some time to acknowledge those that maybe grieving or coping with a complicated situation. Speak with them ahead of time. Find out if there is anything that may cause them to be emotionally uncomfortable. It’s important that everyone feels supported, especially during the holidays. One way of comfort is through the foods and beverages we serve. Food for the Soul. The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where love is served on a plate and cups of goodness is consumed daily. A Seat at the Thanksgiving Table
Being invited to have a seat at the table is a huge compliment. Life-changing experiences often happen at the table. The family history shared for generations, and the ancestor’s recipes have all been enjoyed around the table. Memories of the annual card and board games that brought out the competitive personalities. The table has been more than a piece of furniture. It has been a gathering place to pray, eat, play and plan. It’s no wonder that it has been a tradition to have Thanksgiving at the dinner table. It has been a command center for so many important life events. That’s why I feel the dining area should be a beautiful and comfortable space. It’s important to have enough seating and adequate table space for everyone. Adding a few decorative items to the table or to each place setting are also important items to consider. A Recipe for Love
The love that goes into preparing for Thanksgiving is nothing that can be measured. Every menu item and every chair at the table holds a special place in our hearts. I found this sign that’s the perfect recipe for family and friends. It can be purchased from my brand partner and is a great decorative piece for the Thanksgiving buffet. Add a beautiful frame and flowers to this sign and it will be a memorable accent for the occasion. Another great activity is to have everyone write down an ingredient on an index card. This ingredient should be added to the family recipe and passed around the table until everyone has added their item.
